Containers for Change is Western Australia’s container deposit scheme.

Each year more than four billion containers are sold in Western Australia. Before 2020, only 30 percent of these were recycled – the remainder were lost to landfill.

Since its launch, Containers for Change has more than doubled the 10¢ container recycling rate in Western Australia, generating millions of dollars in donations and funding for schools, community groups, businesses, and individuals.

Recycling 10¢ containers through Containers for Change ensures they remain out of landfill and precious resources such as aluminium, steel and glass are reused again and again.

Some examples of accepted drink containers include; soft-drink cans and bottles, both plastic and glass bottled waters, small flavoured-milk drinks, juice, beer and cider cans and bottles, and even sports drinks and spirit-based mixed drinks.

Through Containers for Change, Western Australians have saved more than two billion containers from landfill and have donated over 8 million dollars to local schools, community groups and charities.
